System description
The Seismobile system, developed as part of the Demonstrator project, is used to investigate the subgrade of transportation routes under various engineering-geological conditions.
Seismobile combines the advantages of seismic profiling and ground-penetrating radar profiling.
Construction
The primary component of this system is a seismic streamer – a device designed to streamline seismic measurements under conditions that hinder geophone mounting (e.g., concrete or asphalt surfaces) or when acquiring long, multi-kilometer profiles.
The seismic streamer is a mobile device whose main element is an assembly of specially mounted geophones and electronic modules with wireless radio transmission of measurement data from 96 single-component sensors, and in continuous operation mode from 96 three-component sensors.
- ground-penetrating radar equipment mounted along the streamer axis,
- GPS receivers for positioning and synchronization.
Measurement capabilities
The Seismobile system enables seismic profiling using refraction and reflection techniques, multichannel analysis of surface waves (MASW), as well as seismic measurements in continuous operation mode.
Innovative features
- rapid assembly and disassembly of the measurement setup,
- direct, reliable digital recording of data,
- wireless preview of records during measurements,
- elimination of unreliable cable connections,
- concept of a moving seismic source,
- synchronization with astronomical time via GPS,
- very low cost per 1 measurement channel.
Technical solutions
- universal MP measurement modules with quick magnetic mounting,
- direct digital recording to Flash memory,
- synchronization with astronomical time via GPS (error ≤ 1 µs),
- accelerometric sensor synchronized with measurement sensors,
- continuous sensor operation with shifting of the measurement spread,
- dynamic range no worse than 130 dB (32 bits).
